Sleeping positions during pregnancy

Will sleeping on my back during pregnancy harm my baby?

Most women find it extremely uncomfortable to lie on their back during pregnancy. As pregnancy advances, the weight of the womb and its developing fetus presses on blood vessels, returning blood to the woman's heart (aortocaval compression). As a result, women lying on their back during pregnancy are likely to feel dizzy and have fainting spells. There is no recent research evidence to show that sleeping on your back during pregnancy will harm the baby.
